This week the gang, minus Smikey who was sleeping, rounded up some awesome gaming news. First off is the latest on EA ditching it’s online passes. This is a plus for those of us who buy used games. Next we have Nintendo who has sent out mass notices to Youtube users who make Let’s Play videos using their content. The final piece of news is about the launch of Microsoft’s gaming news page. Yep, you can get your Xbox news straight from the source. The Geek Link Kickstarters of the Week are Video Games The Movie and The Build a Frog Project. That’s right, folks. You get two Kickstarters this week. Also, make sure to check out the video for the ending music posted below. It is an incredible cover of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.”

Episode 63 has talk of a new League of Legends site and champion, Aatrox, who we can’t decide if he has butterfly or gargoyle wings. Then Smikey tells us about TimeGate Studios going into Chapter 11 bankruptcy and laying off it’s entire staff. World of Warcraft has lost a substantial amount of it’s subscribers in the last few months, but Blizzard is hopeful and planning ahead with new expansions. Also there is a new Humble Bundle out, and it is all about Double Fine games. There is also an impromptu discussion, and subsiquent confession of addiction, of anime and what some of our current favorites are. The Geek Link Kickstarter of the Week is DrunkQuest: The 90 Proof Seas. As you can imagine, it is a drinking game that will get you completely trashed.

The Geek Link Episode 60: Online Only

And Xalaga tells us about the extremely impressive sellout of Penny Arcade Expo Prime tickets. Seriously, I think I managed to get whiplash from the speed and screeching halt of the ticket sales and I wasn’t even buying them. The Geek Link Kickstarter of the Week is Golden Sky Stories. A tabletop RPG with, oddly enough, no fighting. This is one you will want to check out as the art is fantastic.

Then Xalaga brings us the somewhat surprising news that EA has been voted the worst company in the US. Then right after, they laid off tons of employees. The Geek Link Kickstarter of the Week is Paranormal: The Town. A spooky, found footage game in the vein of Silent Hill.

The Geek Link Episode 57: PAX East and Things

This week the crew is joined by fellow nerd, Malcolm Spinedi. He is freshly back from his trip to Boston to attend the Penny Arcade Expo. He saw Saints Row 4 amongst many other things and even got hands on with the PS3 version of Diablo 3. Malcolm also interviewed IGN’s Greg Miller and found him to be a very nice guy. In news we talk about the latest delay to the Xbox 720 announcement and when it may actually occur. TellTale Games has released details about it’s next episodic game, and boy does it look interesting. Square Enix President Yoichi Wada has resigned, but why? Finally we have The Geek Link Kickstarter of the Week: Myth. Myth appears to be a combination of the War Hammer table top game and Dungeons and Dragons, which looks fantastic.

The Geek Link Episode 56: Improperly Balanced Bundle

Episode 56 has news about the recently announced Final Fantasy X HD bundle, well it is sort of a bundle at the very least. What do the PS3 owners get that the Vita owners have to pay extra for? Smikey fills you in on the details. Next up is Magic: The Gathering: Duel of the Planeswalkers 2014 was announced and it is coming to more places than ever, and Xalaga can’t be more happy for it. Smikey brings us the latest rumors about the Xbox 720, codenamed “Durango.” Will discs be a thing of the past? Not quite yet, but they will be pretty useless if the rumors are true. Finally we have The Geek Link‘s Kickstarter of the Week. This week it is Zombie shuffle. A zombie card game based on a standard 52 card deck. How do we think it will fare? Listen and find out.

The Geek Link Episode 55: Just Us Guys!

Episode 55 is a host light this week, so it is just Cannonfodder and Smikey to bring you the latest news in the world of Geekdom. We start off with talk of the soon to be released OVA of Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore. It looks to be decent, but some aspects just don’t seem quite right to the guys. Smikey then tells us of the lawsuit Nintendo just lost for stealing glasses free 3D tech and using it in the 3DS, which could cost them millions. He also let’s us know that Disney Infinity is being delayed, but not for the reasons you would expect. Does this mean that the Skylanders rival is doomed before it gets out of the gate? Also this week brought micro-transactions to Activision’s money printing press, Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Is this a sign of things to come with the mega franchise or is it just jumping on a popular bandwagon to be ditched in this years iteration? The Geek Link‘s Kickstarter of the Week is Civitas. A simulation city building PC game that looks to capitalize on SimCity’s failing.

This week crew discusses a Nintendo without Miyamoto after Xalaga informs us of his impending retirement. What will this mean for the company that saved video games after the industry crashed in the 80′s? We will have to wait and see. The other big news was that SimCity was released and the launch was horribly mishandled. Smikey fills us in on some of the details and a discussion of “always online” springs up as we debate it’s possible merits. Cannonfodder brings us news of PETA (the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) taking issue with the new Assassin’s Creed 4 trailer because of a scene involving whaling. Yeah, apparently the virtual representation of hunting bugs them. Who knew? The Geek Link Kickstarter of the Week is Dungeon Roll – A Dicey Dungeon Delve. Think of Zombie Dice with a D&D twist. All this and more on episode 54.

The Geek Link Episode 51: Man Baby Games

We are a host down this week as Xalaga didn’t want to join the forever alone club and record on Valentines Day with us, so we got new recruit DCXM to join us instead. We get pretty Nintendo heavy on this episode. It starts off with Cannonfodder proclaiming his undying love for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, to which DCXM protests that the game isn’t for “grown men” and unadulterated fan rage ensues. After that odd bit of fanboyism, DCXM discusses Crysis 3 and her need to have a gun that shoots 500 bullets a second, no matter how improbable it is. After she is done, Smikey takes us through what came from the most recent Nintendo Direct. The Geek Link Kickstarter of the Week is an interesting one, Foam Brain Dice: Metals. Yeah, that name is rather confusing for a set of metal dice, but they look good and some of the rewards and stretch goals are comedy gold. There are many laughs to be had on this episode, so come join us for a half hour of geeky entertainment.

The Geek Link Episode 50: A Very Special Episode

This is our 50th episode and it is pretty much our one year anniversary (yes we are counting the several PAX and E3 episodes we did). As such we asked for our listeners to submit some of their favorite memories, those that answered we read on the air. After all the gooshy stuff Cannonfodder discusses Dead Space 3 and the multitude of at launch DLC. On top of that the microtransaction system has already been exploited. Then Smikey tells us how the used game retailer GameStop has rallied against Microsoft with the latest rumors of the new Xbox system blocking used games. Then Xalaga brings us the news that there will be a new Skylanders game coming out later this year called Swap Force that features mix and match figures. Is it enough to squash the upcoming game by Disney though? The Geek Link Kickstarter of the week is one Xalaga fully supports and backed.

Episode 49 has everything from racism to Canadian tax workers to Time Warner. Cannonfodder has a story of Time Warner getting backed into a corner by Google and forced to change it’s pricing. Smikey tells us of a Canadian Tax Department Customer Service Representative that took out his frustrations from his job by making a game, and his employer was none to please. Smikey also brings us the latest on a new controversy surrounding Borderlands 2′s Tiny Tina and how she could possibly be racist (Spoiler: Xalaga gets pissed). But is it a valid claim or just people on the internet trying to sound intelligent? Then Xalaga informs us about an announcement that could possibly be the newest model in the Playstation family, yes it was an announcement of an announcement. It was that Meta. The Geek Link Kickstarter of the Week is Wildman: An Action RPG by Gas Powered Games.

Episode 48 happens to be a rumor mill episode. Cannonfodder covers the latest rumor of a new director for Star Wars: Episode VII, and it happens to be a familiar name for Trekkies (after recording, this rumor has been confirmed) . Smikey brings us the latest details on the auction of THQ properties and where some of our favorite franchises will now be located (while some unfortunately may not have made the cut). Here is the NeoGAF goodbye letter from one of the THQ studios employees that weren’t bought that Smikey mentioned on the cast. Then Xalaga lets her inner nerd run wild as she talks about the newest tech spec rumors for the Xbox 720 (Durango) and the PS4 (Orbis). Smikey and Cannonfoder try to reel her in as she gets a little excited, but to no avail. The Geek Link Kickstarter of the Week is the Virtual Choir 4, which the whole crew really loved the idea of (and Smikey wants to troll).

The Geek Link Episode 47: Huge Hypocritices

On episode 47 we go pretty topical and take on some touchy subjects. Xalaga starts us out with the recent announcement of the Skylanders-esque game, Disney Infinity. To which we all agree has tremendous potential to steal all our money. Then we go into the news that Skype will be taking over and replacing Xbox Live chat with the forth coming console. Cannon discusses the new skins released in League of Legends to go along with their Chinese New Year event. Then we get into the NRA’s first person shooter iOS game aimed at children (yeah that’s a thing). Smikey then tells us about President Obama’s memorandum ordering a study into the affects of violent games and images on children and why it is a good thing for the gaming community. The Geek Link Kickstarter of the week is one Xalaga chose, Video Game High School Season 2. She also urges everyone to see it. Smikey says he will by the next episode, let’s see if that happens.

Once Xalaga was regularly correcting Cannonfodder, it was over for him.
